How often should ducts be cleaned?
NADCA, the duct cleaning trade association, says a complete HVAC system cleaning is typically needed every four to five years, sooner with pets, allergy or asthma sufferers, or indoor smoking. The EPA recommends cleaning only as needed rather than on a schedule. Clean sooner after a remodel or heavy wildfire smoke, or whenever you see mold, pests, or dust blowing from the vents. Sources: NADCA, U.S. EPA.
Los Angeles homes near freeways and wildfire smoke areas collect fine particles faster, and that dust settles inside the ducts and gets pushed back out every time the system runs.
We clean the supply ducts, return ducts, registers, air handler, coil, and blower. Dryer vent cleaning is available too, and so is chimney cleaning, since clogged dryer vents cause thousands of house fires every year.

What a cleaning does inside your ducts
Drag the slider from before to after. The dust, lint, pet hair, and debris that collect inside your ducts are what a cleaning removes.

Every part of the air path
A duct cleaning that only vacuums the vents leaves the dirtiest parts behind. Here is what we clean and how.
| Component | What collects there | How we clean it |
|---|---|---|
| Supply ducts | Dust, pollen, pet dander pushed toward every room | Rotary brushes agitate debris while the HEPA vacuum pulls it out |
| Return ducts | Lint and fine particles drawn in from the living space | Registers sealed so suction stays at full strength |
| Registers and grilles | Visible dust and grime at the opening | Removed, cleaned, and reinstalled |
| Air handler, coil, blower | Buildup that cuts airflow and efficiency | Cleaned and inspected |
| Dryer vent | Lint, a leading cause of dryer fires | Cleaned as an add-on or on its own |

“David from Cool Breeze was prompt and came by within the hour of calling, which was great because the AC was not working during a heat wave. He was able to diagnose the problem immediately. He priced us reasonably and resolved the issue within an hour.”
“Cool Breeze sent a technician out to my rental property on a Sunday because I was in a hurry. They serviced both my heater and air conditioning unit and charged a reasonable amount. They also gave me good advice on how to upgrade the system without pressuring or frightening me.”

Air duct cleaning FAQs
Answers to the questions Los Angeles homeowners and businesses ask us most. More on our main FAQ page.
How often should air ducts be cleaned?
NADCA, the duct cleaning trade association, says a complete HVAC system cleaning is typically needed every four to five years, sooner with pets, allergy or asthma sufferers, or indoor smoking. The EPA recommends cleaning only as needed, not on a schedule. Clean now if you see mold, pests, or dust blowing from the vents. Sources: NADCA and EPA.
How do I know if my air ducts need cleaning?
The EPA lists three reasons: substantial visible mold in the ducts or HVAC parts, ducts infested with rodents or insects, or ducts clogged with dust and debris, or particles released from the supply registers. A musty smell when the system starts is also worth checking. The EPA advises asking any provider to show you the contamination that justifies the work (EPA guidance).
How much does air duct cleaning cost in Los Angeles?
We use flat-rate pricing based on the size of your home, with no per-vent upsells and no overtime fees. Call (310) 469-1979 for a free diagnostic and inspection, or see how we compare to other HVAC companies.
Does air duct cleaning help with allergies?
Not on its own. The EPA says duct cleaning has never been shown to prevent health problems, and that a light amount of household dust in ducts poses no known health risk. Cleaning makes sense when ducts are visibly contaminated. Pets, smoking, and remodeling add dust, so those homes may need it sooner (EPA, our guide to duct cleaning benefits).
What if there is mold in my air ducts?
Have it looked at. The EPA says substantial visible mold in the ducts is a reason to clean, but it will come back unless the moisture problem behind it is fixed. Call us at (310) 469-1979 and we will look at the ducts and the air handler, then tell you what we find (EPA).
What does an air duct cleaning include?
We clean the supply ducts, return ducts, registers, air handler, coil, and blower using rotary brushes and a commercial HEPA vacuum, and we show you before and after photos. Dryer vent cleaning and sanitization are optional add-ons. Regular HVAC maintenance keeps the system running well between cleanings.
Will duct cleaning make a mess in my house?
No. We seal every register except the one being cleaned so the vacuum pulls at full strength, and a commercial HEPA vacuum captures the debris instead of spreading it. We show you before and after photos when we finish.
Do you clean dryer vents too?
Yes. A clogged dryer vent is a fire risk and makes the dryer work harder. We clean it as a stand-alone service or together with a full duct cleaning. If you also have a fireplace, we do chimney cleaning as well.
What does sanitization do, and do I need it?
It is optional. An EPA-registered sanitizer is applied after cleaning to help control bacteria, mold, and odors in the duct system. The EPA says chemical biocides belong in ducts only when needed to control mold and only as the label directs, so you can decline it (EPA).
Are you licensed and insured, and can you come the same day?
Yes to both. Cool Breeze LA is licensed, bonded, and insured under CSLB #1154105, and same-day appointments are often available across Los Angeles County with dispatch 24 hours Sunday through Thursday. Read what customers say or learn about our team.
Do you clean air ducts for businesses?
Yes. We clean ducts for offices, restaurants, retail stores, clinics, hotels, schools, gyms, warehouses, apartment buildings, and property managers. We are open 24 hours Sunday through Thursday and 9 AM to 3 PM on Friday, so we can schedule the work around your hours. Contact us or call (310) 469-1979 for a commercial quote.
Which areas do you serve?
We serve Los Angeles County and the San Fernando Valley, including Los Angeles, Calabasas, Woodland Hills, Encino, Sherman Oaks, Tarzana, West Hills, Chatsworth, Northridge, Reseda, Canoga Park, Thousand Oaks, Agoura Hills, Hidden Hills, Malibu, Burbank, Glendale, and Pasadena. If your city is not listed, call anyway.
How do I choose a good duct cleaning company?
Follow the EPA checklist: avoid companies that promise big health benefits or push cleaning as routine maintenance, be wary of anyone claiming EPA certification (the EPA does not certify duct cleaners), and get a written agreement covering total cost and scope before work starts (EPA). Our guide to choosing an HVAC company has more.
Do you also repair and install heating and cooling systems?
Yes. Besides duct cleaning we offer AC repair, heating repair, AC installation, ductless mini-splits, HVAC maintenance, and emergency HVAC service. More answers are on our FAQ page.
